What are First Generation Hybrids and how can they be First Gen and G2+?
So, a First Generation hybrid is one that is born randomly to a any lioness. They basically function as a very rare random mutation, not unlike achromia, folded ears, bobbed tails and the others, just much, much rarer. However, unlike a normal mutie, when a first gen pon or gon is born, they do not inherit the traits of their parents. Instead, they inherit a set of traits unique to their mutation. For Leopons, Kimanjano base and Mottled Rosette are key features, and for Tigons, Mandarin base and Mottled Stripes are theirs. The mane, mane color, skin, eye color and under markings found on all First Gen hybrids are identical. When first born, literally all First Gen hybrids look exactly the same. They can be modified using apps and RMAs and such, but they are at least born looking the same. When you breed a First Gen hybrid, they have a 10% chance of passing their mutation down to their cubs. Their cubs will inherit traits like normal lions whether they get the mutation or not. Any hybrids that are NOT First Gens have a 5% chance of passing their mutation on to their cubs. You can of course clone a hybrid, so it is possible for a hybrid to look like a First Gen and not be a First Gen, but it's very easy to tell if they are or not. If you look at the link I posted of my First Gen pon Mwezi, you can see that under mutation, it says (First Generation) next to Leopon. Only First Gens have that indication there, so that is what makes it so easy to tell if they are a First Gen or not. Now, the confusion here lies in the fact that a First Gen hybrid is NOT a G1 lion. They are whatever generation they are based on their heritage tree.
My Mwezi is a G2 lion and also a First Gen Leopon, so all her cubs she produces are minimum G3 lions. A common mistake I see is to label the cubs of a First Gen hybrid as a G2 hybrid. There is no such thing as a G2 hybrid. A hybrid that is not a First Gen is simply labeled by its generation as any normal lion would be. So Mwezi's cubs are all G3 since I am careful not to breed her to any king that is not a G1 or G2 lion. I would NEVER call her pon cubs G2 leopons. They are simply normal leopons, not First Gen, and they are G3 lions, which you can confirm by looking at any of the heritage trees of her pon children. Hopefully that made sense. If not, I'm happy to clarify in any way needed.
